The Bible Forecasts Rain and Snow:  A Fun Scripture Activity for Your Elementary Child

Rain-SnowLast year, my husband and I took a vacation up in the mountains.  On Sunday, we ended up going to a quaint little church nestled among the pine trees.  It was like visiting “Little Hose on the Prairie”.  It was beautiful!  The pastor spoke on Isaiah 55:10-11 and I was inspired to come up with an idea for this verse for you to use in your homes or classrooms.

The Scripture reads like this: For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Isn’t that beautiful?  This passage is such a great description of how just like the rain and snow accomplish their purposes of watering the earth to bring forth fruit, so does the Word of God accomplish its purposes God has planned for it.

Here is my idea:  Distinguish a corner of a room where you can prop up an umbrella and display a snowman (paper made is just fine).  Creatively write out Isaiah 55:10-11 on poster board and place it near your umbrella and snowman.  Then for the next month or so, have the children write their memory verses on raindrops or snowflakes that they’ve cut out of construction paper.  Let the children tape their verses around or on the snowman and umbrella.  Before you know it, your Scripture corner will be filled with beautiful snowflakes and life-giving raindrops all pointing to God’s powerful Word.
